Confirming speculation around the activity at Joe Biden’s residence in Deleware last night, presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama sent out text messages and emails to supporters this morning about his running mate selection:

I have some important news that I want to make official.

I’ve chosen Joe Biden to be my running mate.

Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois — the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago.

The two will appear together at the old Capitol Building at 3:00pm EST, which will undoubtedly get roadblocked cable coverage.  As a member of the national service community, you can share your excitement with Senator Biden and thank him for his support of AmeriCorps expansion.

EDITOR’S NOTE: I’m especially excited because I was in Springfield when Senator Obama announced his candidacy for President back on February 10, 2007 and the one ServeNext Presidential Pledge to Expand National Service that I personally got signed… was Senator Biden at New England College in Hennicker, NH on October 6, 2007.
